Imagining Otherwise: Speculation in the Americas

University of Illinois Humanities Research Institute

My 18-month adventure co-convening “Imagining Otherwise: Speculation in the Americas,” the Mellon-funded Humanities Research Institute Grant from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has come to an end. Carolyn Fornoff, PhD, Josue David Cisneros, PhD, and Jorge Lucero, PhD, and I co-constructed this inaugural graduate seminar with nine graduate fellows from across the humanities and arts, and the amazing team at Humanities Research Institute. This course asked how creative scholars could mobilize non-realist forms to highlight the contingency of the present, and realize that it can therefore be changed.

In September, the nine fellows presented their research in a culminating symposium. Their research, and our collective thoughts and experiences of this project, are available in a book, Imagining Otherwise  ⬇️
