Kruger Gallery and I are very pleased to announce and invite you to Birth Throes, my second solo exhibition with the gallery, debuting in Marfa during Chinati WeekendBirth Throes is a new collection of portraits and allegories that meditate on the relationship between me and my mother, mortality, and the capacity for black experience to disrupt, diversify, and enrich American culture. Informed by personal experience, shifting American demographics that forecast a black and brown majority, and overwhelming cases of regulated execution and incarceration, I’m presenting a painted narrative that explores familial bonds, the processing of trauma, and the ways we value people of color.

There will be an opening reception on Friday, October 6 from 5 to 8 pm at the gallery, and a conversation with cocktails on Sunday, October 8 at 12:30 pm. The gallery hours during Chinati Weekend are Saturday, 12pm to 5 pm and Sunday 12pm to 3pm. For additional information, visit or call 630.715.0500.
