Not long ago I was commissioned by Lawrence University to paint the portrait of Mark Burstein, the institution’s 16th president, who retired in 2021.
President Emeritus Burstein and his husband David Calle returned to campus in April 2024 for the dedication of a walking bridge they helped fund and the official unveiling and dedication of the presidential portrait.
It was an honor and a privilege to paint the official presidential portrait, and to join in the ceremony to celebrate with Lawrence University administration, faculty, staff, and alumni. Thank you to Beth Zinsli, Tony Conrad, President Laurie Carter, and everybody in the art department for continuing to welcome me to campus.
